Taiwan’s Minghsin University of Science and Technology is taking steps to enhance its Academe-Industry Collaboration Program by providing training to more than 200 young Filipino engineers in the upcoming years. The program was started in March 2019, to deliver a four-year baccalaureate degree that integrates both study and internship opportunities for students.
So far, the program has successfully trained and benefitted 201 students belonging to various regions across the Philippines. By combining industrial training with Mandarin language classes, the university strives to provide comprehensive education to the students, preparing them to excel in their chosen fields.
The university’s commitment to providing quality education to its young students has earned recognition from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO). The MECO Chair, Silvestre H. Bello III, expressed gratitude for the university’s efforts in producing 73 highly skilled Filipino graduates in the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering major in Management (IEM) course.
What’s particularly notable is that the first batch of IEM graduates was made up entirely of female engineers. This is an impressive accomplishment considering the gender disparity that exists in the science and technology fields. The second batch of 53 students has recently completed their studies, paving the way for the university to continue training over 200 engineers in the years to come.
At this university, the focus is not only on academic excellence but also on providing a well-rounded education to students. In addition to rigorous coursework, the university offers various programs that aim to enrich students’ personal and professional lives. Through counseling services, cultural activities, and spiritual growth initiatives, students have access to resources that help them grow as individuals.
One of the most exciting opportunities available to students is the chance to participate in internships with top industrial and semiconductor companies in the Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park. These internships offer invaluable real-world experience and enable students to gain practical knowledge in their chosen fields. As a result, students are better prepared to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that come with their future careers.
Thanks to these programs and initiatives, students at this university have formed strong connections with both the institution and their peers. The result is a community of learners who are not only knowledgeable in their respective fields but also well-rounded individuals who are ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.
After completing their internships, students are allowed to kickstart their careers immediately upon graduation. This program has been developed with the primary goal of facilitating a smooth and hassle-free transition from academic life to a professional career. The program aims at equipping students with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their respective fields.
It’s impressive to note that only two of the total number of graduates opted not to continue working in Taiwan. Of these two, one decided to pursue higher education in Australia, while the other returned to the Philippines to establish their own business.
The work-study program’s beneficiaries are selected through a partnership between the Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Saint Charles Borromeo and various dioceses in the Philippines. This collaboration has resulted in success, demonstrating the strong bond between Taiwan and the Philippines and empowering young Filipinos while strengthening economic ties. It’s inspiring to see Minghsin University of Science and Technology take the lead in promoting cross-cultural collaboration and producing a skilled workforce.
The program offers a fantastic opportunity for students to receive a quality education, practical experience, and career growth. By working together, the university and its students have achieved remarkable success. This program serves as an outstanding example of how collaboration and dedication can bring about positive change.
