MANILA, PHILIPPINES — “Mario Dumaual, updated sa showbiz happenings.” No more.

Mario Dumaual is a Filipino journalist and television personality. He is known for his work as an entertainment news reporter and anchor in ABS-CBN, one of the largest media networks in the Philippines. Dumaual has covered various entertainment events, including red carpet premieres, award shows, and celebrity interviews.

As an experienced journalist, Dumaual has conducted interviews with both local and international celebrities, providing insights into the entertainment industry and offering viewers a glimpse into the lives of famous personalities. He has been involved in reporting on a wide range of topics, including film, television, music, and showbiz news.

Dumaual’s work has made him a familiar face in the Philippines’ entertainment scene, and he has gained recognition for his professionalism and expertise in his field.

Dumaual died on Wednesday after suffering “severe fungal infection” following a heart attack, his family confirmed.

According to his family, the reporter died at 8:01am due to septic shock. He was confined for a month at the Philippine Heart Center, they added.

He would have turned 65 years old on July 31.

“Papa was strong, he kept fighting on, overcoming the heart attack then a cardiac arrest. He would always say he wanted to go home because he missed us, his family. But the infection overwhelmed his body’s ability to recover,” the family posted on social media.

“What comforts us is he knew that we were always with him, waiting for him, and that home was wherever he felt our love,” the family added. “We also made it a point to let him know how loved he was by his friends in the industry and even kind strangers who have been offering prayers and help for his recovery.”

“Yung huling pagkikita namin ni Sir Mario, nasa opisina siya, nagtatanong kung pa’no mag-yu-YouTube kasi gusto niyang mag-vlog,” ABS-CBN News Chief of Reporters Jeff Canoy shared.

“Sure he was a showbiz reporter but he was decent, fair and loved whom he loved,” Sharon Cuneta commented.

“Mararamdaman mo ‘yung genuine concern niya every time he’d ask a question,” shared pop star royalty Sarah Geronimo.

“He was part of our careers. And he never put out anything that made us look bad. He always wanted to bring out the best in all of us. Even if the artist was going through controversy and all, he would try to focus on, ‘Yeah, but it can’t be all bad. There’s a reason why that artist ay naging artista – dahil gusto siya ng tao.’ And he would always find a way to bring that out,” Gary Valenciano said at Dumaual’s wake.

Dumaual was laid to rest on July 9, 2023, Sunday afternoon.

Rest in paradise, Sir Mario.
