Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared October 30, 2023 as a special non-working holiday for the conduct of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Marcos issued Proclamation 359, declaring the date as a special non-working holiday across the country to give the people “full opportunity to participate” and “exercise their right of suffrage.”

As of October 5, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said 2,911 areas across the country were identified as election hotspots.

Of this number, 357 were under the red category, 1,323 in orange category and 1,231 under yellow.

As of October 9, the PNP recorded a total of 71 violent incidents amid the election period.

Out of the 71, eight have been validated to be election-related, 18 were still undergoing validation while 45 were not related to the upcoming polls.

So far, 1,208 individuals were arrested for violation of the election gun ban while 912 firearms were confiscated, 1,692 were deposited for safekeeping and 731 surrendered.
