Miss Universe Philippines, Michelle Dee, made a triumphant return to the Philippines after an eventful journey at the 72nd Miss Universe Competition held in El Salvador. Greeted by an exuberant crowd of devoted fans, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering support, emphasizing the uplifting ‘bayanihan’ spirit that resonated throughout her experience.
Overflowing with joy, Michelle, flanked by her mother, former Miss International Melanie Marquez, and Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee, couldn’t contain her emotions upon her arrival at the airport on Saturday night. “Words can’t express how amazing it feels to be back home. Thank you all for coming here. It truly warms my heart. You know that I gave my all just to represent our country,” she shared during a media interaction.

Acknowledging the setbacks faced during the competition, Michelle lamented, “It’s regretful, indeed! I know you feel it too! But everything happens for a reason. We’ve showcased the incredible spirit of unity within the Philippines. I just hope you remember my introduction: ‘Pilipinas! So, Michelle Marquez Dee!'” In unison, the crowd responded with a resounding, “Pilipinas!”
Her unwavering goal throughout the Miss Universe journey was to make Filipinos proud, a promise she fulfilled with grace and determination. Although details about her future endeavors in television remain undisclosed, Michelle assured her fans of an imminent return to the screen.

Amidst the fervent welcome, hundreds of admirers, brandishing miniature Philippine flags, banners adorned with her portraits, and colorful streamers, demonstrated their unyielding support for the homegrown beauty queen.
Reflecting on her achievements in El Salvador, Michelle secured multiple accolades, including Best in National Costume, triumph in the Voice for Change competition, the Spirit of Carnival award courtesy of Carnival Cruise, and emerged as the winner of the Miss Universe app fan vote. Despite concluding her Miss Universe journey within the top 10, an inadvertent mix-up during the semifinal round created an unexpected uproar among Filipino pageant enthusiasts.
Apologies ensued when the art card for the top 5 finalists erroneously featured Michelle’s photo, prompting an apology from Miss Universe El Salvador. “Our sincere apologies! Amid the live broadcast, we inadvertently swapped the names of two finalists. This was a hurried mistake—no privileged access here! We extend our apologies to both finalists,” conveyed the organizers on Facebook.
Following the rectification of the error, the revised version correctly spotlighted Miss Universe Thailand Antonia Porsild, the rightful second-place holder in the competition.
Responding to the incident, Michelle remarked, “Mistakes are unfortunate, yet inevitable in an imperfect world. My plea is for respect not just towards the delegates but also for the ardent supporters deeply invested in this platform.”

“In every setback, there’s a lesson or a blessing. It’s about responding with love, compassion, and understanding,” she emphasized.
As Michelle Dee returns to her roots, her resilient spirit and unwavering commitment to representing the Philippines with dignity and grace continue to inspire and unite her supporters nationwide.
