In a heartfelt gesture, President Marcos conveyed his regrets and tendered an apology to the vibrant Filipino community in Dubai for the unforeseen cancellation of his visit to the United Arab Emirates. Expressing genuine remorse for missing the scheduled gathering on Thursday, Nov. 30, Marcos emphasized his commitment to compensating for this absence.
In a candidly recorded video message released on Thursday night, Marcos conveyed his sentiments, stating, “I deeply regret not being able to join you this time. However, I assure you that given another opportunity, we will reconvene, and I will ensure to make it up to you.”
He clarified the reasons behind his decision to forgo the trip to Dubai, citing the imperative need to personally address critical developments involving the 17 Filipino seafarers. “Certain urgent matters demand immediate attention. Among them is the situation concerning our fellow Filipinos who are being held hostage—17 individuals whom we are diligently working to bring back home,” Marcos elucidated.
Highlighting the formation of a delegation tasked with negotiating the hostages’ release and repatriation, Marcos stressed, “Hence, I trust that you can comprehend why we prioritized this, as ensuring the safety and security of our compatriots remains our paramount concern.”

Expressing his anticipation and regret at missing the chance to engage with the Filipino community in Dubai, Marcos assured them of future encounters. “It is disheartening because I was eagerly looking forward to our gathering. You all know, among the joys of my travels, meeting fellow Filipinos is the most fulfilling. When Filipinos convene, there’s an undeniable jubilance, music, and laughter,” lamented Marcos.
Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the Filipino diaspora to both the Philippines and their host nation through their dedicated service, the President extended gratitude to the community.

Marcos had originally intended to depart on Thursday morning, planning to participate in the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). However, an hour prior to the scheduled flight, he made the decision to cancel his trip in light of the urgent circumstances demanding his attention.
As Marcos extends his remorse and pledges to reconnect in the future, the Filipino community in Dubai remains hopeful for an eventual encounter with their President, eagerly awaiting the promise of future engagements and interactions.
