Amidst the festive air of the Yuletide season, an unprecedented gesture of warmth and inclusivity has emerged from the heart of power in the Philippines. President Marcos has orchestrated a remarkable move by unlocking the stately gates of Malacañang Palace to welcome the public for the sacred observance of the traditional nine-day “Simbang Gabi” or dawn Masses.

In a stirring proclamation by the newly-appointed Presidential Assistant Cesar Chavez, the essence of this historic decision was emphasized—Malacañang Palace, often shrouded in an air of exclusivity, now stands open to its “true owners,” the Filipino people. Chavez expressed his astonishment, citing that in the annals of history, never has the resplendent gates of Malacañan swung open to the populace for the entirety of the nine Simbang Gabi nights.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the hallowed ritual of dawn Masses will commence at the pristine grounds of Malacañang at the early hour of 4:30 a.m. An unprecedented invitation, echoing the spirit of Christmas hospitality, beckons the public to partake in this cherished tradition, fostering unity and reverence amidst the grandeur of the presidential estate.
Continuing the tradition from the preceding year, Malacañang Palace extends its cordiality by unveiling its opulent Christmas tree and enchanting lantern displays at the Kalayaan grounds, offering a mesmerizing spectacle daily from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. until the 23rd of December. To delight the young ones, the Palace has arranged captivating rides, creating a jubilant carnival ambiance at the Kalayaan grounds.

Chavez underscored the enduring accessibility of Malacañan Palace to the Filipino masses, tracing its legacy back to the tenure of President Marcos. He highlighted President Marcos’ dedication to fostering an environment where the people feel a sense of belonging within the grandeur of the Palace.
“This season, President BBM and his family have curated a special treat for the Filipino populace, especially the children,” Chavez remarked. The palpable joy and wonderment of the holiday season await children, offering them an opportunity to revel in the festive spirit within the Palace grounds. From merry-go-rounds to capturing precious moments amidst the resplendence of the magnificently-lit Christmas tree, or simply relishing a serene stroll through the lush gardens, the Palace becomes a haven of merriment and tranquility for families.
Beyond the revelry, Malacañang stands not solely as a place of amusement this Christmas but also as a sanctuary to nurture one’s faith. Chavez highlighted the significance of holding the traditional Simbang Gabi within the Palace grounds throughout the nine sacred nights, inviting individuals to engage in spiritual reflection amidst the regal splendor.

Reflecting on President Marcos’ vision, Chavez reiterated, “As a steward of this esteemed institution, President Marcos acknowledges that this Palace is not his own; it belongs to the people.”
In this unprecedented gesture of openness and inclusion, Malacañang Palace stands not only as a bastion of governance but as a beacon of unity, embracing the Filipino spirit of camaraderie and celebration during this cherished season of hope and joy.
